A Massachusetts nanny is facing charges after police say she was too drunk to open the door. Firefighters had to use an ax to pry it open in order to save the 4-year-old child she was babysitting, according to the Salem News.
Inside, the police found Susan Conway-Lally, 52, with a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit. She reportedly was unable to stand without an officer’s help. Police later found an empty bottle of vodka in her purse.
The mother hired Conway-Lally through Care.com, a website that connects sitters with families. The couple told police they checked her references and conducted a background check.
Thankfully, the toddler was okay after the incident. The mother was frantic after discovering what happened, and this case raises interesting questions about Care.com’s background checking.
