There are few things that elicit outrage quite like abuse of those who cannot defend themselves, and three assisted living facility employees in Georgia have found that out the hard way.
Jorden Lanah Bruce and Mya Janai Moss, both 21, and 19-year-old Lizeth Jocelyn Cervantes Ramirez have been charged with exploiting an elderly and disabled person after they allegedly filmed a wildly inappropriate Snapchat video of a dying, 76-year-old woman who had suffered a stroke, WSB-TV reported.
The three were reported by a fellow employee at the Bentley Senior Living Facility who saw the video on Snapchat.
A police detective who viewed the video said is was titled “The End” and showed “One of them was smoking a vape pen.”
“They were using profanities and (making obscene hand gestures) at the camera,” the detective added. All of this was allegedly happening as they waited for hospice nurse to arrive and they were supposed to “closely monitor” the elderly woman.
The three were arrested on June 22. Ramirez is actually in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as of Friday, Online Athens reported.
Their employment status at the facility is not clear at this time. It isn’t the first — and surely won’t be the last — time employees have gotten in trouble for the things they’ve recorded while on the job at a care facility like this one.
Another egregious case of alleged elder abuse in Georgia gained renewed attention in 2017, when videos came to light. World War II veteran James Dempsey was left to die alone. A camera placed in the room by his family was rolling as Dempsey gasped for air.
The original image of Mya Janai Moss was incorrect, and the picture has been removed.
