Cops sided with NFL free agent Adam “Pacman” Jones after a brawl. The former Cincinnati Bengals cornerback got into a fight with an airport employee, and police blamed the other guy.
The video above shows Jones squaring off with the man. Footage begins with the men arguing. Jones is accompanied by a woman in a yellow jacket. It escalates, with the staffer apparently shoving Jones. The men brawl while the woman attempts to break it up. In the end, the other guy falls onto his back before Jones is pulled away.
This happened at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia on Tuesday night, Atlanta police said in a preliminary information statement obtained by Law&Crime. Cops said the free agent was just defending himself, and they arrested the other man, identified as Frank Ragin, an employee of the cleaning company ABM.
The brawl started after Ragin made a gesture toward Jones, and the two got into an argument, said police. The airline staffer, not the NFL player, made first contact by attacking with a closed first, authorities claim. Jones suffered a laceration to the face.
“Mr. Jones then started to defend himself, causing Mr. Ragin to fall to the ground,” police wrote. “During the course of the incident Mr. Ragin also struck a companion of Mr. Jones, causing an injury to her hand. Mr. Ragin was determined to be the primary aggressor and was taken into custody. He was charged with two counts of battery.”
Ragin was sent to the hospital, while Jones and the woman declined medical treatment.
The suspect could not be reached for comment. The incident report is being completed, and the investigation is ongoing.
For once, “Pacman” isn’t in trouble. His criminal history includes a 2005 arrest for a fight in Tennessee, and a 2006 arrest for marijuana possession. Last year, he was reportedly caught on video cursing officers in 2017 during an assault bust–he ended up pleading down the case to a single obstruction charge.
